Reason #14: Can help build on Star Wars: Rebels

The differences in time period are made prevalent when you watch from the Episodes IV, V and VI and then jump to Episode I, II and III. They are like different universes or lands that have been much changed over centuries. But that is not the case. In very little time, the changes that have been made from the end of Episode III to Episode IV are monumental, but not much time has passed at all. We see never get to see how everything came to be.

Clarification between each Star Wars movie is essential in bringing greater appreciation and attention for the actual events in the movie, but one of the biggest clarifications we need is the story between Episode II and Episode III.

Have context is best when bringing an even better appreciation for a show like SW Rebels where we still see characters from The Clone Wars time period.

The Clone Wars series was in the process of telling the story of how the Jedi fell and it leading to the eventual Rise of the Empire, but was cut short. But from what we were able to see, there was more proper development for Anakin Skywalker, and the characters we would see very little of in the movies.

As a show, SW Rebels is telling another story entirely. The consequences of the Rise of the Empire. A world where Jedi are scarce and nearly no more. And this story is good as well, but won’t be able to provide proper closure on what had truly happened during The Clone Wars.

They may tell us what had happened, but it will only be as a memory. We will never be able to see for ourselves what truly occurred during those events.

That being said, Star Wars Rebels has great potential to be successful and become even better than The Clone Wars. This is especially because a lot of the same people were working on TCW, have devoted their time into SW Rebels as well. However, we believe the biggest obstacle facing Star Wars Rebels is the unanswered questions from the Clone Wars.

With so much left unfinished, it’s no wonder that the writers cannot help but feel they owe their fans some semblance of closure with references and the return of characters the fans loved from the time of The Clone Wars.

look towards Season 2 of Star Wars: Rebels

  • Ever since the reveal of Ahsoka at the end of Season 1, she would prove to cause a lot of excitement amongst the fans of the TCW series (and it would be said that it provided excitement for the writers and developers as well)

  • By the start of Season 2, the expectation of  Ahsoka’s confrontation with her former master Anakin Skywalker (the now Sith Darth Vader) was a constant event that fans awaited for as the Season progressed

  • Though the show would continue to help develop the stories of Ezra and company, main speculation and excitement would surround the emergence of more characters from TCW like Rex, Gregor and Wolffe

  • And this would spur the curiosity of the question: “What happened in the Siege of Mandalore?” A clear reference to events that happened in The Clone Wars that we were never able to see

  • While the target audience for Star Wars Rebels are kids, these children were not around with the first series and might feel a disconnect from the references made to the past

  • However, this could also inspire for those same kids to want to watch more from The Clone Wars series during times when they have to wait for the new season to emerge for SW Rebels

  • In addition, with the quality that the show like TCW manifests, this will create more who are interested in the show and seeing more questions answered with a proper completion of the series

What exactly would finishing The Clone Wars do for Star Wars: Rebels?

  • Would create greater depth and character attachment for the characters from The Clone Wars era that are featured in Star Wars: Rebels

  • Provides opportunities to delve more into the backstories of characters introduced into Star Wars: Rebels, and vice versa

  • Provides a clean transition into the Star Wars: Rebels timeline, and viewers coming from Star Wars: Rebels will also be able to watch into The Clone Wars series with cognitive understanding

  • Results in a greater audience as followers for both shows will still continue to watch into The Clone Wars or Star Wars: Rebels

  • After Star Wars: Rebels completes their series, they will remain relevant with the run of The Clone Wars and revenue for merchandise and viewership would still be collected

It is time for the this to stop being a competition and more of an alliance between two stories that will help to further enhance the Star Wars universe.
