The future of the Clone Wars was canceled upon the Disney takeover of the Star Wars and Lucasfilm Franchise.

With all the facts laid before them and evidence that the show would have continued with exponential success, this was a decision that shocked many fans.

It is on the official Star Wars site where they released an article explaining the official reasoning for Lucasfilms behind cancellation.

“As we enter into an exciting new era focused on the next Star Wars trilogy, Lucasfilm has decided to pursue a new direction in animated programming. We are exploring a whole new Star Wars series set in a time period previously untouched in Star Wars films or television programming. You can expect more details in the months to come.

As part of this shift, we have also made some key decisions affecting Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars Detours.

After five highly successful and critically acclaimed seasons of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, we feel the time has come to wind down the series. While the studio is no longer producing new episodes for Cartoon Network, we’re continuing production on new Clone Wars story arcs that promise to be some of the most

We are incredibly proud of the teams at Lucasfilm Animation for creating some of the most amazing animation ever produced for TV. Keep checking StarWars.com for new developments on these and future projects.”

  • “As we enter into an exciting new era focused on the next Star Wars trilogy”

    • Refers to the original trilogy era and it is this focus that brought about the creation of Star Wars Rebels

  • “Lucasfilm has decided to pursue a new direction in animated programming.”

    • A new direction in animated programming? Understandable.

      • However, as they moved forward, animation quality should have also improved, but that was not the case when comparing both side by side

While the reason behind this enormous animation difference may budgeting, Disney is no small enterprise.

  • As stated by BusinessInsider “Here’s Where Disney Really Make Money” reports that in 2014 Disney’s Revenue was $48,813,000,000

  • "After five highly successful and critically acclaimed seasons of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, we feel the time has come to wind down the series.

- A confusing prospect. If you have a successful product, one that is success over multiple years, why not keep producing it? Especially when it shows evidence that it will continue to be successful.

  • “It’s time to wind down”

    • There was clear evidence that the development crew was not preparing to “wind down” at all

    • They were still working on developing Season 6, as half of the episodes were already fully animated

    • In addition, the crew already knew and was planning the story behind the next two seasons

Since the Cancellation, there have been multiple organizations and petitions fighting to get the closure the fans deserve.

The main issue fans must hurdle over is the lack of priority for the show and the treatment by its owners. The fact that SW Rebels is still doing quite well for itself despite the circumstances, shows that the developers are capable of working with that they are given.

They are being actively hindered from doing everything that they wanted yet that doesn’t stop them from putting out a story that people are still able to enjoy. Even though SW Rebels still has a way to go before matching the quality of TCW, it is a show that still is able to do better than most other shows that are airing.

The Star Wars Community is a big community, and it’s just a matter of time of uniting the community and informing people that the fight for the Clone Wars is still on.
