Currently, Star Wars Rebels is aired on Disney’s second channel called Disney XD.

Disney XD is geared towards a younger demographic of “pre-teens and young teenagers” and as of February 2015 became available to 80,120,000 pay television households in the United States.

In comparison, by April 2016, Netflix reported over 81 million subscribers worldwide, including more than 46 million in the U.S. It is under the category for “Kids”, where many are now able to view The Clone Wars, including the “Lost Episodes” that had been in development during the cancellation of the show during its run on Cartoon Network

  • On March 7, 2014 Netflix began airing Star Wars The Clone Wars.  With it’s launch, Netflix also released “bonus content”,  which revealed half of season six.

  • With the addition of the unseen season and the convenience of being able to watch in their own time through Netflix, people have been watching The Clone Wars long after its cancellation, especially with the renewed interest in Star Wars in modern culture

  • As of February 2016, Star Wars The Clone Wars was trending on Netflix as popular

  • The Clone Wars is under the category of “kids”, which shares the same target audience as SW Rebels

  • The shows answers questions between “Episode II: Attack of the Clones”  and “ Episode III: Revenge of The Sith”

  • It bridges the transition for leading protagonist: Anakin Skywalker. (As stated by StarWars.com)

  • Further develops and builds characters that were featured in the prequel movies that were previously little spoken and/or silent in the background, bringing them to the main plot

  • Visually showed more of the Star Wars universe from new planets, locations and people

    • For example, they introduced the viewers into the lives of Mandalorians, who had only been seen unofficially through Jango Fett in the prequel movie

"In these eagerly anticipated episodes of Star Wars: The Clone Wars (The Lost Mission), some of the deepest mysteries of the conflict between the light and the dark sides of the Force are revealed.”
  • Before the inclusion of The Clone Wars’ interpretation into the Star Wars universe, Anakin Skywalker’s characterization and development was cut short from the immense time skip from Episode II to Episode III

    • At this time, Anakin had gathered a lot of experience we would not see and also developed antagonistic feelings towards the Jedi Council which we did not clearly understand
    • In The Clone Wars, Anakin would be further humanized as he developed into the person he would become at the period of “Revenge of the Sith”

  • The show had been cancelled at a pivotal moment where a very impactful event had occurred: the leaving of Ahsoka Tano

    • With this occurrence, there were a lot of questions that would be left unanswered

  • With the release of the Lost Episodes, many would go to watch them in hopes that a resolution would be fulfilled from the recent conflicts and events

    • Instead, the audience would be left with even more questions and less answers, and the series was not truly completed satisfactorily
  • The Clone Wars is still trending, even now, on Netflix, and even if it is accounted by the rise of popularity in Star Wars genre again, it’s own merits in great storytelling is what keeps it relevant for people to keep watching again and again

  • Though we know that The Clone Wars is successful amongst an older demographic, it remains in the Kids Category of Netflix as a reflection of its success among the younger demographic as well

  • The assumption being that if the show had been allowed to run even towards the younger demographic on Disney XD, it would have continued to be successful in maintaining popularity
