When any T.V. show that has been on the air for 5 or more seasons and unexpectedly ends, it’s a tough pill to swallow. This is especially so for a cast that has devoted so much time and work into the series, while inevitably bonding closely together for so many years.

While Star Wars Rebels is set after the Clone Wars, they do share one special thing in common: they both share Executive Director Dave Filoni and similar recurring cast.

And the cast members came back, came back for a reason. They still love the universe and stories that were created. They love the characters they breath life into, just as much as their fans.

Characters in Rebels that were in The Clone Wars
  • Ahsoka Tano

  • Anakin Skywalker

  • Captain Rex

  • Wolffe

  • Gregor

  • Hondo

  • R2-D2

  • CP3-O

  • Obi Wan

  • Bail Organa

With the reintroduction of characters like: Ahsoka Tano, Anakin Skywalker, Captain Rex, Obi-Wan and even Hondo, they act as a nod to the The Clone Wars series and acknowledges the significance of the characters to the Star Wars Universe.

Even in such a large universe, by the time period of SW Rebels, these characters still come back. They are still relevant and causing a stir, influencing the main plot in an impactful way.

While it is clear that there are fans that want The Clone Wars to return, they are not alone in this fact. There has been evidence of the key crew members and actors that brought the Clone Wars to life also share the interest in proper closure being brought to the show.

It’s not surprising. A show that ran from 2008 to 2014, amounting to 5 years, is substantial. And the people who worked on it would not have done so for so long without caring about the show too.

Dee Bradley Baker -- main voice actor of the clones featured in both The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels series-- goes on to promote the success of TCW while attending the 2015 Star Wars Celebration in Anaheim, viewing the unfinished episode Bad Batch:

“This show in it’s rough form is better than most anything on television now, in my opinion. But it’s a testimony to the clear writing and to the clear storying telling. I mean you notice the way the action plays out  for instance it’s very clear what is happening. There is a lot of action in television and movies of course, but it’s really not well shot, choreographed out and planned out. This is beautiful. Even in this rough form, it’s a fantastic movie. ”

“I very proud of this, I’m very proud of the work of everybody, of all the people that go into making this show. It’s so amazing even in this state. It’s incredible!”

Dave Filoni, Supervising Director of The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels continues:

“The Clone Wars was always about taking each step farther than anyone thought was possible. I was super lucky the entire time on Clone Wars. As supervising director I never had to push people to do their best. Everybody always wanted to do  their best. I worked with the best episode directors, I worked with the best  production staff, the best story team. Everybody was just so impressive, there was just no limit.”

Further on, Dave Filoni, and Pablo Hidalgo continue their thoughts in regards to TCW during the “The Untold Clone Wars Panel”:

“We get together all the time almost everyday as his office is right near mine.  We of course talk about Star Wars all day. We still talk a lot about Clone Wars. A lot of what we do in Rebels is still relevant of what we did in Clone Wars.”

“I can’t go with anything about Rebels, without someone mentioning #SaveTheCloneWars. Bring back Clone Wars. And I personally really appreciate that. Making that show meant so much to me, it meant so much to the crew. The outpouring at the cancellation really blew our mind.”

“The writers, especially Matt Michnovet got really into it (The Bad Batch), so much so that I keep forgetting he didn’t write the first arc, it was Brent Friedman, which is rather shocking to me cause that’s all he talks about. We’ll be in Rebels, he talks about Bad Batch all the time.”

“It’s a very quality show. Would I have like to finish it? Absolutely, there is no doubt in my mind.”

Ashley Eckstein, the voice Ahsoka Tano, alludes to Siege of Mandalore  and talks of her hopes of it being finished at the Emerald City Convention 2016:

“I only know a little snippet of it. Dave worked on a need to know basis. So what we needed for our performance, and I think he mentioned, that wasn’t  the first time Ahsoka and Darth Maul saw each other. They did see each other in between and right around order 66. Sam and I do know bits and pieces about that storyline, that I hope one day will be told.”

The people who created and helped bring The Clone Wars series to life still want to see it finished. In addition, there is still so much that they had planned that can still be seen through. Everything is still there.

Unfinished episodes that were basically finished that only needed to be refined. They were already practically fully voice acted for the two arcs they revealed on the Star Wars official site.

And from the recent events of the SW Celebration 2016, we have the reveal of another plan they had drawn out for one of their final arcs for the series. Everything was almost fully defined.

Give them the chance to come back and they will only need to pick up from where they left off. No need for them to start over from scratch!
